Biography:

I graduated from Rockhurst University with a degree in Chemistry and Philosophy. From there, I attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and obtained my medical degree. I served there for residency and finished in 1986 as the Chief Resident for Pediatrics. My wife and I have four sons, all of whom attended Mizzou. Three are now also physicians.

I have been privileged to work with my group for more than thirty years. I am a legacy! Dr. Don Blim, a founder of our group, was my pediatrician. I currently serve as the group's president.

I am very involved with quality initiatives at St. Luke's and at Children's Mercy hospitals. I currently chair or am a member of several committees that focus on quality enhancement of health care delivery for all children in the Kansas City area. I am an original board member for The Children's Health Network of Kansas City.

Over the years I have also been happily involved with the Boy Scouts of America, United States Swim, and various charitable and church-based groups.

I love pediatrics and being allowed to follow a child's growth and development from birth through the college years. I look forward to getting to know new families.

Biography:

As a pediatrician, I strive to be an advocate for children, support parents navigating their parenting journey and to be a mentor as kids transition into young adults. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of caregivers' insight when it comes to medical decisions, as you know your child best! I stay up to date on the latest guidelines and practices in pediatrics. I love primary care because I enjoy helping families adopt healthy lifestyle habits. This includes focusing on activity and nutrition, learning and behavior, and supporting mental health in order to help kids become healthy and happy adults.

About me: I grew up local to the Kansas City area and am lucky to still have a large extended family living nearby. I attended Tulane University for undergrad, KU for medical school and trained at Children's Mercy for residency. I enjoy being outside, yoga, running, reading, and spending time with my friends and family including my husband, our German Shepard mix and our beautiful baby boy!

"I believe that my passion for family and wellness are what make me an effective pediatrician."

Biography:

I owe my desire to study medicine to my father. Growing up, I witnessed first-hand how meaningful his medical practice was to him. It was the energy and vibrancy of children that drew me into the specific field of pediatrics. That choice is reaffirmed daily in the exam room! I enjoy every age and developmental stage of children, and partnering with parents in the care of their child brings me so much joy.

My medical journey began as a pre-med student at Stanford University. After graduating with my bachelors, I attended medical school at the University of Kansas. Children's Mercy Hospital is where I began my pediatric journey, and it was there that I was recognized for excellence in primary care as a resident physician. Today, I give back to the residency program by mentoring residents in my clinic.

I feel fortunate to call myself a wife, mother, and physician. I am the wife of a family medicine physician who shares my enthusiasm for fitness and the outdoors; I am the mother of three adult children. Among many interests, I enjoy CrossFit, open-water swimming, challenging hikes and skiing, and I am an avid reader who enjoys a great thriller.

"From its beginning, Pediatric Associates has been a community leader in pediatric health care. I am honored to be part of this rich history and excited to be involved in its future."

Biography:

When my AP Biology teacher in Omaha, Nebraska asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, the answer was easy. I told him I wanted to teach. His eyes were soft and suggesting, when he replied, "Yes, you would be a fine teacher. Have you ever thought about teaching medicine? You have quite the knack for science."

That simple quip opened my mind to possibilities. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I poured into my studies with a new goal. I fought for opportunities and experiences that I would have otherwise missed. And less than a decade later, I had reached the goal that he had sparked when I graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

I learned how to be a pediatrician at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. My attending physicians instilled the importance of relationships and teamwork while caring for children. I was able to learn about each patient family, honoring them as individuals while offering state of the art medical treatments. I was inspired by children fighting through hardship and ready to celebrate when healing came. Pediatric is indeed is a remarkable job.

Today, I share evidenced-based child expertise blended with clinical experience. I do this in the office during my time in clinical care, but also using various digital and traditional media outlets to promote child health and wellness.

I have been able to work in science communication through my role as National Spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Council of Communications and Media for the AAP. I am a regular contributor to NBC Learn's Parent Tool Kit, US News and World Report, and our local KCUR. I am passionate about vaccinations for our community's children and serve on Missouri's Advisory Committee for Childhood Immunizations. I am also a nationally recognized speaker in health innovation, health care social media, vaccine advocacy, and media use with children.

I am fueled by my husband, Dr. Kevin, and our two dynamic kids. As a family, we love to travel and share new adventures. Kevin and I also like to golf and are in a couples league in the spring and summer. And in my second life, I would be a race car driver. I love to watch Formula 1 racing and have taken sport driving classes across the Country.

If I'm not in the office, find me at KCKidsDoc.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I look forward to meeting your family soon.

"There is no greater joy than to see a new life begin and a new family form. And no greater honor than to be entrusted with the health and wellness of both."

Biography:

My journey to pediatrics is one that came full circle.

I grew up in a community of 70 people in southeast Nebraska and am one in the last generation to attend a country schoolhouse; grades K-8th, three teachers and 30 children. It was a unique experience and spoke toward my family's heritage of farming, hard work, pride in community and love of family.

In high school, I was able to see a surgical operation at the local hospital. I was hooked. I knew at that moment -- medicine was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

From there I went to college and was able to play college basketball. I then moved on to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where I fell in love with my wife Natasha and the profession of Pediatrics. We married after graduation and then moved to Cincinnati Ohio to further our skills in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Medical Hospital.

Once our three-year residency was complete, we moved to Kansas City to be closer to family and to start our careers. I found myself at Pediatric Associates, being hired by the brother of my teacher from that small country schoolhouse. At that moment, I knew I was where I was supposed to be, and we (both Natasha and I) have both been at Pediatric Associates ever since.

Natasha and I now have a family of our own, including our two children and 1 French bulldog. As a family we enjoy traveling, exploring the world around us and going on adventures together. In my free time, I continue to play basketball, practice photography and enjoy SCUBA diving.

I love my job as a pediatrician, our community, and this practice. I look forward to meeting you.

Patient Review:

Biography:

I joined Pediatric Associates in 2014. I love that my job allows me to know and work with such wonderful patients and families. Every child is different, and those differences are part of what makes my job so interesting and rewarding! I aim to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent illness as a child grows. Topics you will hear me focus on include pediatric nutrition, sleep and behavior. I strongly recommend the CDC vaccination schedule as part of my preventive care for my patients and our community.

I grew up in northeast Kansas in a large family. I have lived in Kansas City since moving here to attend Rockhurst University for my undergraduate education. I graduated from KCU medical school and completed residency at Children's Mercy Hospital.

My husband, Michael, and I have 3 amazing kids (two girls and a boy). The happy chaos of having children continues to make me a better pediatrician every day! Outside of work and family, I love to cook, be outdoors, travel, and cheer on our local sports teams, especially the Chiefs!

Biography:

As a Kansas City native, I couldn't be happier to be a pediatrician in the city I love and call home. After graduating from high school in the area, I attended Kansas State University. I went on to medical school at Des Moines University followed by pediatric residency at Children's Mercy Hospital. I completed an additional year as chief resident before starting at Pediatric Associates in 2016.

There are countless reasons why I love pediatrics, but it comes down to forming relationships and providing care through each stage of development. My role allows me to celebrate with families during times of wellness, but also be available during times of need. I think it's important to stay up-to-date with ever-evolving medical advancements and relay this information to my patients. In general, I focus quite a bit on preventative medicine, and I enjoy caring for children and teenagers with asthma and allergies.

My husband, Brett, and I are lucky parents of three daughters. In addition to keeping us on our toes, we learn something new from our girls everyday. Parenting is such a gift! Biography:

I grew up in a small town in northwest Iowa, where a sense of community was highly valued. After completing my medical education and training, I desired to practice in a setting where physicians, medical staff, families, and patients worked together to both optimize their health and that of the community around them. I found Pediatric Associates and the Kansas City metro area to be that place!

I graduated from Creighton University with a degree in Exercise Science. During my studies, I learned the importance of promoting and achieving healthy lifestyles. I attended medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado and was excited to return to the Midwest to complete my residency training at Children's Mercy Hospital.

The most significant part of being a pediatrician is getting to be a small part of helping families grow and thrive while maintaining a calming presence for them when questions or illnesses arise. I strive to keep up on the latest evidence and research but value the personal insight that families bring to their visits. I genuinely believe that I have the best, and most fun, job! I am always amazed at the resiliency of children.

In our free time, my husband and I enjoy traveling, working on home projects, playing with our dog, and cooking. We look forward to starting our own family. I also have a passion for global health and have been fortunate to spend time in multiple countries providing medical care. Biography:

I grew up in Rogers, Arkansas with appreciation for health, science and helping others. I decided to pursue a nursing career at the University of Arkansas and work in pediatrics. After graduation, I worked as a NICU nurse at Children's Mercy in Kansas City. While working in the unit, I learned to appreciate the family unit and caring for those who can't always speak for themselves. When in that nursing role, I realized I deeply enjoyed helping educate families to have the tools to best take care of their children, not just in the hospital setting, but when they go home as well. I decided to go back to school to pursue my master's degree.

During my training, I had the opportunity to work at Pediatric Associates and found a special place in the Kansas City community. I am so excited to be joining the group as a clinician and care for KC's kids. I am married to my husband, Scott, and we hope to start a family of our own. Biography:

I am lucky to be a Kansas Citian born and raised! I started my journey to becoming a pediatrician at Pediatric Associates, where I was cared for as a child. I attended the University of Missouri as an undergraduate, Kansas City University for medical school, and completed my residency in pediatrics at Children's Mercy.

When it comes to practicing medicine, I believe the best offense is a good defense. Through preventative medicine, vaccinations and encouraging healthy lifestyles, I strive to educate and empower parents to make informed decisions about their children's health. I want every family to nurture their kids, and grow up strong, happy, and healthy.

Beyond the stethoscope and outside the exam room, my passions include experimenting with new recipes, reading science fiction and fantasy novels and exploring the world with my wife, Shelby, son, Finnegan, and my not so "miniature" goldendoodle, Atlas.

Biography:

I am a Kansas City native and am thrilled to call it home! After graduating from high school, I attended Wake Forest University for my undergraduate degree and then began nursing school at Mizzou. Upon graduation, my husband and I were married and moved to St. Louis. I worked as a NICU nurse at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital until we relocated back to Kansas City at the end of 2018. I completed my master's degree in nursing from UMKC in 2019, and then we welcomed our first daughter, Vivienne, into the world! I started working at Pediatric Associates at the beginning of 2020.

Being around children – both in and outside of work – brings me so much joy. I truly value the relationships formed with each family. It's incredibly rewarding to help a parent's child feel better when they're sick, as well as watch them thrive when they're well.

In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and our two dogs, exercising, cooking, and brainstorming house projects.

"As a mom, a former pediatric nurse, and now a Nurse Practitioner, I am truly honored to care for your kids! My ultimate goal is to provide effective education to parents and families and ensure confidence in my patients' care."

Biography:

Pediatrics has always been my passion! From a young age, I knew I wanted to help people and there is no better way than to do that through being a Nurse Practitioner at Pediatric Associates! I love the relationship I get to form with each patient and family, and I love watching kids grow! Caring for pediatric patients means caring for the whole patient as well as their family. I am truly honored to do that at Pediatric Associates.

I got my nursing degree from Austin Peay State University and ran track there. I didn't have much free time to say the least! My husband and I got married and moved to Kansas City in 2015. That is when I began working Pediatric Nurse and then as a Neonatal ICU nurse. The drive to want to help people pushed me to go back to school and become a Nurse Practitioner.

Outside of being a Nurse Practitioner, you can find me chasing my toddler around, drinking coffee, working out, and spending time with my family! I enjoy hiking, being outdoors, and reading. I am involved in my local church and volunteer at various organizations through church. My husband and I love to travel different places with our family. We also love cheering on our local KC teams!

"To be entrusted with the care of a child – there is no greater honor and privilege."

Biography:

I was born and raised in a small town in Nebraska. I moved to Lincoln to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University where I played volleyball and ran track while completing my undergraduate studies. I obtained my medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and then moved to Kansas City for my pediatric residency at Children's Mercy Hospital. I am thrilled to call Kansas City home and am honored to serve the children and community through Pediatric Associates!

In junior-high a teacher had us write a letter to our future selves, one which I opened 15 years later at my 10-year high school reunion. Even then, I knew I wanted to be a pediatrician and spend my life caring for kids. I truly love all aspects of pediatrics but really have a passion for preventative care, development, healthy sleep habits, and nutrition. I enjoy helping families navigate the challenges and joys of parenthood; working along-side parents and empowering them to raise happy and healthy children. I strive to build deep relationships with patients and their families and I take great pride in that responsibility.

When not in the office, you can find me spending time with my family. My husband, Teemu, and I have been blessed with two wonderful children who keep us very busy. As a family we enjoy spending time outdoors, staying active, cheering on the Chiefs, traveling both domestically and abroad and being with our family and friends.

Calie Donohue, M.D.

Calie Donohue, M.D.

MD

Education:

Biography:

Growing up, my parents encouraged me to pursue any and every dream I could imagine. They provided me with ample opportunities in academics, fine arts, and athletics. I quickly learned that I loved sports and learning how the body functioned, excelled, and healed. I combined these interests as a dual sport athlete in college while obtaining a degree in exercise science to prepare me for medical school.

I met my husband during medical school in my home state of Minnesota, and after graduation we traveled south to Kansas City on a whim for residency training. We quickly fell in LOVE with KC! From the restaurants to the sports teams (although I will always cheer first for my Minnesota Vikings!) and the weather to the neighborly community, we feel so extremely fortunate to now call Kansas City home to our family of six.

I was also introduced to Pediatric Associates during my residency training as Dr. Natasha was my teacher and mentor in general pediatrics for three years. During my years at PA, I learned how to take evidence-based science and medicine, mix in empathy and compassion for children, and come out with the best and most fulfilling way to take care for pediatric patients. Now, after a not-so brief 10-year stint at Children's Mercy in the emergency department, I am proud and excited to be returning to Pediatric Associates to care for children during their ill visits.

Maddie Summers, M.D.

Maddie Summers, M.D.

MD

Education:

Biography:

From my days as an editor of my high school newspaper, I've enjoyed putting pen to paper and watching new stories unfold. In college I earned my journalism degree while participating as captain of the Iowa State University swim team, before diving straight into a career in magazine publishing. It wasn't until I was working in a small hospital in Iowa that I realized I didn't just want to write stories about the health care experience--I wanted to be in them!

I moved back to Kansas City to complete medical school at the University of Kansas. During my pediatric residency at Children's Mercy Hospital, I had the chance to spend time at Pediatric Associates, where a fire ignited in me to make this place my "forever" practice. I am constantly impressed by the strong relationships built between providers and families, and how this synergy creates an environment where children and adolescents truly blossom into amazing young adults.

In my free time you'll find me playing yard games with my husband while my children chase each other around the neighborhood, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs or chowing down on food from my favorite local restaurants. I am nothing without my morning cup of coffee, celebrity memoirs are my guilty pleasure, and I love a good pair of sweatpants and back porch sitting in the fall.

I am thrilled to be practicing medicine in the same community where I was raised, and where my husband, two daughters and I have planted strong roots. I look forward to meeting your family and watching your children's stories unfold!

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." – Benjamin Franklin

Education:

Biography:

Dr. Isaacson's journey to pediatrics was driven by a passion, inherited from his mother, for human physiology and the desire to harness the curative powers of medicine. During his medical training, it was only fitting that Dr. Isaacson was drawn to pediatrics, a field valuing preventative care.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Isaacson's family fills his cup. Together with his wife Courtney, he has three beautiful young daughters, Penelope, Olive, and Charlotte. The Isaacsons are Kansas City natives who enjoy staying active as a family and sneaking off to the beach any chance they get.

"My approach to pediatrics is rooted in empathy, open communication, and a genuine love for children. As your partner in the incredible adventure of parenthood, I am here to listen, educate, and provide the guidance you need to make informed decisions about your child's health."

Education:

I strongly recommend fully vaccinating kids against preventable diseases on the schedule approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunized Practices (ACIP), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

Biography:

I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin where I was inspired by my parents' dedication to medicine as physicians rooted in the community. They always described their work as the privilege of building relationships with patients during both the happiest and the toughest moments of their lives. Medicine is about human connection; that is what inspired me to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in pediatrics.

After graduating from Boston College with a degree in Biology, I returned to Wisconsin to attend the Medical College of Wisconsin.  There I met my husband Ron, and then subsequently moved to Kansas City for residency at Children's Mercy Hospital.  Living in Kansas City, we fell in love with the people, the food, and, of course, the Chiefs.

We are lucky to be calling Kansas City our home, as we grow our family and are now experiencing the city in a new light with our son, Everett, who keeps us busy! As a family, we love outdoor adventures with our pup, staying on top of the ever-evolving restaurant scene, and traveling as much as time allows.

I chose to become a pediatrician because I love the innocence and curiosity of children. I enjoy building long-lasting relationships with my patients and their families from birth through adolescence. I firmly believe that caring for a child goes beyond addressing physical ailments and involves understanding their emotional well-being as well as supporting their cognitive growth. I am here to provide guidance to parents with a focus on early intervention, preventative care, and open communication.

I would be honored to partner with you on this incredible journey of raising healthy, resilient, and joyful kids.

Biography:

I knew I wanted to become a doctor from a young age since I was always fascinated by the sciences. But it was watching my doctor stitch up a cut that convinced me that medicine was the coolest profession. This led me to pursue UMKC's accelerated program where I completed both my undergraduate and medical degrees. After my first rotation in pediatrics, I knew this was the right career for me. I completed my pediatric residency at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Since then, I have been a practicing pediatrician in the KC metro area, but when the opportunity to practice in my community arose I jumped at the opportunity to join this amazing practice in 2023. I enjoy taking care of kids of all ages as well as getting to know their families as a whole. I love being a support to help parents navigate the difficulties of raising happy, healthy kids. I believe in shared decision making and finding a treatment plan that works for your family when possible. I have a passion for childhood safety and building healthy habits in childhood that will lead to healthier adults.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the outdoors including hiking, biking, and traveling. I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, and cheering on our local sports teams. I am the mom of two little boys who keep me busy with sports, legos and all things outdoors. My husband and I have called Lee's Summit home most of our adult lives. I am so excited to now be working in the community we call home.
